Androgenic alopecia treatment is now available for pattern hair loss. It is an inherited trait to lose hair when the person gets older. This condition is common in men, but it can occur in women as well. Many hair loss treatments are now available. If you are considering having androgenic alopecia treatment, here are some commonly asked questions and the answers to them.
Who is an ideal candidate for androgenic alopecia treatment?
Sex or age is not a deciding factor for hair loss treatment. Male patients 30 to at least 70 years old can have successful treatments. Even younger individuals can get a hair loss treatment as well. Women suffering from pattern hair loss can be good candidates for this procedure.
Healthy hair on the back and sides of the head is a priority. These areas are the common sources of healthy hair for androgenic alopecia treatment. Making sure the patient is not bald yet will ensure a good source of existing hair. A flexible scalp will make the extraction and transplantation of hair follicles easier and quicker. A person with the same color of scalp and hair is an ideal candidate as well.
What is the process of micro blend grafting?
Androgenic alopecia often affects the front and top parts of the scalp. The areas where hair follicles grow all the time are the sides and back of the scalp. That is why these are goof donor areas for the hair loss treatment. The main goal of the treatment is donor dominance. This is when the grafted hair follicles attach and grow when the doctor transplants them into balding areas.
The hair grafts may be mini or micrografts. Each micrograft has about one to three healthy hair follicles. Punch grafts have 10-20 hair follicles. Mini grafts have four to six hair follicles.
Mini and micro grafts provide fine and delicate hair. The result is much like the hair growth the patient had before balding started. These follicular grafts result in a natural hairline. It is more effective in patients with curly or wavy hair.
What is the procedure?
The patient will receive IV (intravenous) or local sedation first. The doctor will start the androgenic alopecia treatment by removing a tiny strip of healthy, hair-bearing scalp from the sides and back of the head. These donor areas will grow hair throughout the patient’s lifetime. The doctor will close the source scalp. This will appear as a fine line when it heals. The remaining hair will hide it well.
Then, the doctor will divide the strip of the fertile scalp for transplanting in the balding spots. The grafts may be in different sizes. The hair grafts will grow like normal hair. Their transplant will not be detectable. The doctor will check if the transplanted hairs grow in different directions, forming a hairline.
An androgenic alopecia treatment can change your life
Hair loss is a devastating condition to many adults. Androgenic alopecia is often a sign of aging in many men and women. Low self-image and depression often take over. Consulting your doctor can check if you qualify for androgenic alopecia treatment. Knowing more about it from your doctor will prepare you well for your upcoming androgenic alopecia procedure.
