Plastic Surgery Hair Transplant FAQs
Plastic surgery is not just a procedure for movie stars and other celebrities. If you are not happy with the way a part of your body looks, this could be a wise choice. A hair transplant could be an effective way to help you regain your youth and do something about baldness. Your plastic surgeon has the knowledge and training to successfully transform your head to restore your hair.
Factors that lead to hair loss
Baldness or thinning hair can affect people of all backgrounds. Though some people may think it can only occur to the elderly or those in their late-middle-ages, younger men and women can struggle with these issues too. Age does play a role, however, as people in their 40s, 50s and 60s are more prone to hair loss than those in their 30s and 20s. Hormonal changes can also cause people to lose hair, as can diseases and illnesses such as thyroid disease and anemia. Emotional traumas, including severe stress, are known to affect hair growth.
How the procedure works
Every patient has different needs and varying levels of hair-loss conditions. Generally, the plastic surgeon will take hair from one place and move it to an area where there is balding. The plastic surgeon will make small holes in the affected area and place hair follicles in them to grow. Usually, the plastic surgeon will use a local anesthetic so that the patient can feel more comfortable during the process. The transplant may be from one area of the head such as the back or side to the top or front.
The process can be tedious
In some cases, this form of plastic surgery can take up to four hours to perform. The plastic surgeon may transplant hundreds or thousands of hairs into the patient’s head. To help the patient feel more at ease, there may be break periods during the procedure. The patient may even be able to listen to music or watch television.
The recovery is minor
The patient should feel little to no pain during and after this plastic surgery. Hair transplants are minimally invasive, though the plastic surgeon can prescribe pain medication if the person is feeling significant discomfort. Usually, the patient will need to take over-the-counter pain medication for just a few days to manage any uneasiness.
Results can be satisfying
Not all patients experience the same effects after a hair transplant. For the most part, patients should notice effective hair growth within two or three months. The regrowth process is gradual but normally steady. Within a year of this plastic surgery procedure, the patient could have a full head of hair.
Enjoy the benefits of plastic surgery and a hair transplant
